Sumitomo Chemical has submitted applications for registration of its new fungicide INDIFLINTM (ISO common name: inpyrfluxam) to the regulatory authorities of the EU.

INDIFLINTM, a novel fungicide active ingredient discovered by Sumitomo Chemical, belongs to a class of compounds known as succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHI) that have a mode of action inhibiting energy production process in pathogenic fungi. Evaluations conducted in-house and externally have ascertained that INDIFLINTM exhibits high efficacy against major plant diseases in the European region, such as Brown Rust on wheat, Net Blotch on barley, and Black Scurf on potato, as well as other diseases occurring on various crops in other regions. INDIFLINTM is thus expected to provide new solutions for controlling a broad spectrum of crop diseases.

Following approval from the relevant regulatory authorities, fungicide products containing INDIFLINTM will be commercially launched in the EU in 2023 or later. Applications for registration of this new fungicide were already filed in Japan, Argentina, the United States, Canada and Brazil in 2017. For other countries and regions, too, Sumitomo Chemical will continue to develop INDIFLINTM products so that the new fungicides will become available for use globally.

Sumitomo Chemical will reinforce development of agro-solutions that will cater to the specific needs of growers, thereby contributing to meeting an ever-growing demand for increased food production as the world’s population continues to rise.
